Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) is a versatile by-product of the cashew industry. The nut has a shell about 1/8 inch thick, inside which a soft honeycomb structure contains a dark reddish-brown viscous liquid — the pericarp fluid of the cashew nut.
The cashew shell contains up to 25–35% of this precious oil, also known as cashew nut shell oil, which is imported by many countries around the world.
